More than One Way to Skin a Cat: Adventures in Creative Thinking

How many times have you caught yourself saying that there could be no other solution to a problem – and that that problem leads to a dead end? How many times have you felt stumped knowing that the problem laying before you is one you cannot solve. No leads.  No options.  No solutions.

A friend just wrote this..

on another chat board.

I liked it, so here it is..

Meditation is not about having ‘no thoughts’. The nature of the mind is to think as the nature of a fish is to swim.

Meditation is not identifying with, or getting caught up with, the thoughts you have during a period of meditation.

You might have thoughts but the thoughts aren’t you. They are just like leaves floating on the river of your conscious mind. Why do you pay so much attention to the leaves?

There is no one right way to meditate. The most important part of meditation isn’t how good you are at it (how would you measure that, anyway?), but how faithful you are to the practice.

You all have busy lives. If you decide to sit in meditation for 10 minutes, 20 minutes or an hour a day, then just do it to the best of your ability. Don’t get caught up in the externals. Don’t worry if it’s noisy. You could always put your ipod on. You don’t need a candle, a purple cushion and perfect silence. We work with what we have and it doesn’t need to be ‘perfection’.
