Selecting shutters and blinds..

Author: I recently decided that I wanted some shutters or blinds, but had a hard time working out what kind! Lets face it, interior wooden shutters will create the defining touch to flatter any decoration of your home. Wood shutters are a great investment, and should be thought of and treated as fine furniture. Also, they are the only window coverings that are actually appraised into the value of your home. The rich natural appearance and matching quality features they offer make them a perfect choice for your home.
Insulation
Wood shutters and venetian blinds will offer you many insulation values such as energy efficiency, and they maintain interior temperature from exterior temperature extremes as well as help with outside noise. According to experts, it takes nearly 6 inches of brick, 14 inches of concrete, and well over 1,700 inches of aluminum to equal the insulating value offered by only 1 inch of wood.
Environmental
Opposed to aluminum, plastic, and other types of composites, wood is only material for shutters that
is manufactured from a 100% renewal source.
Authentic
Wood can be made from several sources, including poplar, oak, and basswood. There are several products that feature word wood in their name, although they actually contain little to no wood at all.
They are all extremely limited in their custom features, and are only available in standard white colors, cannot be stained, and they have both the look and feel of plastic.
All around the United States, wood remains one of the most popular sources of shutters. Wood shutters offer you many features, and they are also easy to install, even if you have no experience with installing shutters.
You can find them in your local hardware store, or even order them online if you prefer. They may cost a bit more than vinyl or other types of shutters, although they will last for a long time and give
your home the look you desire.

Even though wood may be renewable source it usually comes from place where they have never heard about replanting anything. There are some organisations that guarantee the sources of wood but I am not really sure if that’s common in the USA. Nevertheless the isolation value of wood remains significantly high.

They realy do effect the way your home feels. I used to have the plastic white blinds in my house, I put wooden blinds in and it mad my house look very antiquish.

They are way to many companies out there selling shutters. When i changed ours it took us weeks before we decided which one to go for!
1. If ur gonna use wood, make sure u use proper precautionary measures against white ants and termites.. more importantly.. you dont wanna be living in an area that has a lot of rainfall/water.. excessive humidity makes the wood expand..

Which did you decide to go with? We recently added wooden shutters in the bedroom. I don’t like them as much as I thought I would. Im thinking of going back to curtains or possibly blinds.
I love using blinds in a room to create a certain ‘feel’ or atmosphere. I think that selecting the right blinds/shutters can make or break a room in terms of the way it feels when you walk in.

Isn’t it funny how when you are a kid you would rather get a shot than go to the window treatment store? Now that I am older and can appreciate it, going to places like Home Depot literally make me giddy!

We are getting ready to remodel the kitchen, tear out walls the whole thing. I want the wooden shutters, painted white….good luck with your decision.
Another option for decorations for your windows is artificial boxwood tiles that can be seemed together to make fake hedges.
Oh yes, wooden venetian blinds perfect fit in any interior. In my house on the second floor is just a small repair, can be updated interior with their help.

I was wondering what type of wood is the best for the shutters? Is there any difference or importance?
But anyways they must be made of wood! Metal or plastic will not work in this case.

Wood blinds are always a beauty. Too bad they cost so much more than the plastic version. Given the budget I’ll prefer them any time of the day.
