Nursery furniture has come on leaps and bounds in recent years. As well as the cot beds that you mentioned, a lot of furniture companies are now creating furniture sets to last from baby until pre-teen. They generally cost a little more to begin with, but it works out far cheaper over the time of 10 to 12 years.

yeh, the problem really seems to be kids growing out of their furniture too quick, so this is a big consideration for people. Trying to find pieces that will last for more than a year.
