Discovering Resources, Guide to Self Reliance and Constructive Changes
It is fairly simple to find resources in your quest to make positive changes in your life. The hardest part is uncovering the source of your angst. Once you have done that, success is just around the corner.Â
You could begin by assessing who you are, what you like and don’t like about yourself, what makes you tick. Look at your emotional make up. As you seek deep within yourself you will begin to see what changes need to take place. Only you can make those changes, so you are the only one who can determine which methods will work.
Find external resources as well. The self-help section of your library or local bookstore is overflowing with materials that will help you on your endeavor. There is a vast majority of information on the internet about meditation techniques, ways to change your thought patterns, and support groups and forums to help you change bad habits.
Setting goals is a great way to get started. Don’t go for the “gusto goals†that seem unobtainable. Start with a small goal. For instance, if you eat nothing but fast food and you want to change you are eating habits; don’t start shopping at Wild Oats Market. Start by adding a serving of vegetables a day, or cutting back on grease one meal a day. The effects of minor changes will encourage you to take the next step. Before you know it, Wild Oats will be your grocery store of choice.
Write your goals down and keep up with your progress on paper. Make a chart on a poster board and hang it in your bedroom. It will help you to visualize the goal and the victory. The smaller the goals, the more victories you will have to record. As you look at the list of victories you will be encouraged to set another goal and achieve it.
Emotional stress is exhausting. When you control your emotions, you will have more energy for more productive activities. Relaxation is a great way to corral the energy you would be wasting on stress. Notice your surroundings. Listen to birds or soft music to get your focus off your problems. Once you relax, begin to release that energy by getting up and doing something constructive – clean house, exercise, go for a walk.Â
Meditation is a wonderful way to control your thoughts. Stress makes your mind go in fifty directions at once, but focusing on one thing at a time will help, you calm down. You will begin to feel more energetic because stress is very taxing on your energy level. You will also make better decisions because you will think them through first.
Exercise is a great way to expel the newfound energy. Not to mention the fact that it is a healthy habit to get into. Stress causes high blood pressure while exercise strengthens your heart. Stress causes disrupted sleep while exercise leads to a night full of rest. The best part of exercise is that it’s free. All you have to do is walk out the front door and around the block.
As you begin to dictate your life as opposed to your circumstances dictating you, you will begin to notice positive changes naturally taking place. You will notice others around you begin to relax and life will flow much more easily.Â
