My Mother..

had an umbilical hernia some time ago – so it was with interest that I read (and forwarded to her) a press release that crossed my desk today.

Apparently there has been a Hernia Mesh Recall as Kugel Mesh Hernia Patches are used in hernia repair surgery and have caused serious injuries including: Migration of recoil ring, Breakage of recoil ring, Abdominal pain, Bowel perforation, Chronic enteric fistulas and Unnatural connections / tissue growth between bowels.   To be honest this all gave me a bit of a scare and I really hope to hear back from her soon – that it wasn’t this mesh that she had used to repair her hernia.

On Janary 10, 2007, Davol/Bard expanded an earlier recall and market withdrawal of the Kugel Large Oval and Kugel Large Circle patches due to reports of PET recoil ring breakage.  If you or a loved one has one of these hernia patches, the first thing you need to do is get some medical assistance just in case the patch has caused any problems.   If it has caused problems, you may be able to get some compensation and it would be a good idea to get some legal advice from some lawyers such as Parker Waichman Alonso Mark LLP.
