Now we all know the stereotype of the mail order bride who gets out of the homeland and then ditches her new “husband” as soon as she’s gotten her greencard, but apparently it’s not like that at all.  Marriages to russian women have a lower divorce rate than “regular” marriages, which I found quite surprising, actually.

In Russia, women tend to think of family and home-life first and careers only once they are well established in their relationships.  Because the dating traditions and approach are very different the experience of courting is different, add on to that the long distance, and I can see how many folks might be skeptical, but it seems that the sucess rate is higher than you might believe because these women are serious – about getting to know the men before they make a committment.  It’s a stereotype to think that they will marry the first person who comes along!  They want to make sure they get it right too.. and the much later divorce rate would attest to the fact that many of them do!
